David Lyons Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Coal Mining Management
Fifth-Generation Coal Mining Professional with Peabody Energy, Saint Louis, Missouri

SAINT LOUIS, MO, November 26, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David Lyons, Manager of Western Region Corporate Maintenance Services of Peabody Energy, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of coal mining management.

Mr. Lyons has 30 years of professional experience with Peabody Energy. At his management post, he is responsible for conducting cost accounting analysis, maintenance planning, warehouse reviews, assists with purchasing, and overseeing process improvement efforts in both maintenance and warehousing. Mr. Lyons is the fourth-generation of a fifth-generation coal mining family. He assists with overseeing six mining operations maintenance and warehouse groups in the Western United States with an inventory value of more than 50 million dollars and staff levels of over 300. The companies, under his supervision, utilize lean tool usages including the 5-S process, wrench-time studies and Spaghetti diagrams. He started working in coal mining part-time so that he could obtain his accounting degree. However, as time progressed, he became more comfortable and excited about continuing the family legacy. Bettering the mining industry became his goal and ambition.

Prior to earning his current title, Mr. Lyons held a myriad of positions with Peabody, the most recent of which include manager of maintenance programs (1996-2006), manager of maintenance planning and scheduling (1994-1996), manager of the Black Mesa Mine Warehouse (1994), and manager of Mesa Central Warehouse (1989-1994). Adaptability and an ability to stay focused in order to build new job skills are the driving forces behind Mr. Lyons' career success. He notes that his transition from a regional to a corporate level management position was the highlight of his career. He received his Master's Degree in Accounting and his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting through the University of Phoenix in 2006 and 2003 respectively.
