Home Energy Audit the First Step for Reducing Homeowner's Energy Costs.
Many homeowners think new windows, more insulation or an upgraded furnace is the first step toward making their home more energy efficient—but it's not. According to Pro Energy Consultants, the first step should always be a home energy audit.

NAPERVILLE, IL, January 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- What's the first step a homeowner should take to "go green" and save energy? If you think it's installing new windows, adding more insulation or buying a new furnace, think again. It's having a home energy audit.

"To maximize the energy efficiency of a home, the very first step is to always start with a home energy audit," said Pro Energy Consultants Principal Mark Cannella, who has personally performed more than 10,000 energy audits since 1995. "A customized, diagnostic home energy audit uses the latest technology to evaluate the performance of a home and pinpoint precisely what improvements are needed to solve any comfort and excessive energy usage issues. This is the key for maximizing a home's energy efficiency."

Cannella cautions homeowners to not be so quick to spend money on new energy efficient home improvements until the home's needs are assessed by a professional home energy auditor. In fact, in his nearly 15-year career he's only recommended new windows twice.

Pro Energy Consultants, established in 2008, is the nation's first home energy auditing franchise and has quickly grown to more than 30 locations. The process begins when an electronic blower door is installed in an exterior door. This allows the energy auditor to in essence take an "X-ray" of the home by using infrared thermal imaging to identify all the hidden building energy "leakage" areas—the real cause for excessive energy usage and major comfort complaints.

"Our job as an independent third party is to simply educate homeowners about their home and show them what improvements will be most cost effective," added Cannella.
