npower Reports on the Big Switch Off
npower has reported that the 14th April will see the majority of the British public switch off their heating, with the big switch off occurring on this date, year on year.
WEST MIDLANDS, ENGLAND, April 16, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- npower has reported that Wednesday, 14 April will see homes across the UK breathing a sigh of relief, as homeowners optimistically swap their central heating and woolly jumpers for shorts and sunglasses.
Statistics from npower hometeam, which installs, services and repairs gas boilers, show that the majority of the British public switch off their heating on this date, year on year.
Although large parts of the country felt the sting of winter long into March - with some areas of the UK experiencing snowfall days after British summertime officially began - spring has finally sprung. Last year npower hometeam recorded a steady rise in calls to its boiler service and repair offering from 14th April and is now advising homeowners to treat their tired out boilers to a once-over after one of the worst winter's in 30 years.
Richard Cotton from npower hometeam, commented: "The long cold winter has really put our boilers to the test and many of them will be suffering, so summer gives us the chance to get our boilers fully serviced.
"Not only will a regular service of your boiler make sure it is operating safely it will also help it run more efficiently, saving between 10-15% off your gas bill. Although some people think that autumn is the best time, consider how hard the boiler has been worked over the winter. If any damage has been caused, it's best to identify it now rather than wait until it turns colder again."
npower is also encouraging those thinking of replacing their boiler to do so now.
Richard continues: "A new boiler is safer, more energy efficient and could help you reduce your energy bills by up to GBP235 off an annual gas bill*. Installing a new boiler is a big decision and it takes time to select the boiler that's right for your household and to pick an installer who you can trust to do a professional job."
Anyone looking to replace their boiler can now benefit from npower hometeam's scrappage scheme which launched in conjunction with the equivalent Government incentive, but has now pledged to continue the scheme even though the Government's has now closed. Homeowners with boilers over ten years old can take advantage of npower hometeam's boiler scrappage scheme, which enables them to get GBP400 off a brand new boiler.
hometeam is the Home Energy Service from npower, installing boilers and gas central heating systems for domestic customers. It also offers servicing and boiler repair, plus a range of central heating care products.
