China is World's Largest Exporter of Solar Cells, Production Continues to Increase
FARMINGTON, CT, May 21, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Global Information Inc. (GII) would like to present a new market research report, Opportunities in the Solar Market for Crystalline and Thin Film Solar Cells published by The Information Network.
"Greater China continues to increase production of solar cells while exporting more than 90% of its product," says The Information Network, a consulting and market research company based in New Tripoli, Pennsylvania. The Chinese are well-known for low-cost manufacturing. Nine out of the world's leading 15 solar panel manufacturers are from China. Is it realistic for non-Chinese solar makers to compete with JA Solar, Yingli, Green Energy, Trina Solar, Gintech, Motech, Canadian Solar and Suntech Power?
According to Dr. Robert Castellano, president of The Information Network, "As the world moves to alternative energy sources, it begs the question 'which is worse: buying solar panels from China or oil from OPEC?' In 2010, Greater China manufactured nearly 60% of the worldwide solar cells in 2010 and exported more than 90%."
Total cell production in the China and Taiwan region represented nearly 60% of global production in 2010 and increased by 152% from 2009 to 2010. Production in North America increased by 93% in 2010 and only increased 49% in Europe. Despite 65% of all solar cell installation occurred in Europe, only 13% of solar cells were domestically manufactured.
